Election statement: “(At the top of my list is) the creation of a UEFA academy to provide the associations with management training, training in technical development and coach education, training in marketing and public relations, medical services, refereeing, legal questions and press services, etc. Greater financial aid should also be provided for the national associations at all levels (investments by associations in sports grounds, administration, structures...). The club licensing system warrants everyone’s attention. I would also note the development of football education and practice in all the national associations, especially at youth level. Finally, we must preserve the solidarity and stability among all the national associations and defend the moral and material interests of football, while adapting football to the special features of the third millennium in all the various fields."

Football souvenir: ” I wasn’t able to play in the match against England on the sacred turf at Wembley on 30 March 1977 because of a broken tibia. Geoffrey Thomson, President of the English FA, made up for that disappointment two decades later by allowing me to take part in the line-up for the England-Luxembourg match at Wembley on 4 September 1999."
