Three months in charge
WIT lost 3-0 to the Georgian champions, FC Torpedo Kutaisi, over the weekend, and the 38-year-old Tkebuchava quit after just three months with the club. Indeed Tkebuchava was in charge at WIT for one official game as he only took over at the winter break.
'We were not happy with him'
Dr Guram Rukhadze, the WIT president, told uefa.com: "I think the reason behind his resignation is not only this loss. We also lost four out of six friendly matches at the pre-season camp in Turkey, and I think he decided he would not be able to do anything serious in charge of the team. To be honest, we were not very happy with him as well, that is why we accepted the resignation." Tkebuchava himself refused to comment on his decision.
Third coach
Tkebuchava was WIT’s third of coach of the season already. Gianni Carnevali of Italy resigned at the start of the season and his successor, Sergo Gabelaia, survived until the winter break, but then was replaced by Tkebuchava.
Hoping for replacement
WIT are hoping to name a new head coach before Wednesday’s Georgian Cup quarter-final match against FC Gorda Rustavi. Meanwhile, Ramaz Pirtskhalaishvili replaced Avtandil Nariashvili as head coach of the bottom club, FC Guria Lanchkhuti.
