FC Bayern München defender Sammy Kuffour has been suspended for six 1. Bundesliga games.

FC Bayern München defender Sammy Kuffour has been suspended for six 1. Bundesliga games following his sending off in the German Cup semi-final.

Cup defeat
Kuffour was shown the red card in the 90th minute of last Wednesday's German cup-semi-final defeat by FC Schalke 04 after an incident involving German international Jörg Böhme. With the match still goalless, the Ghanaian international's dismissal left his team with ten men for the extra-time period of the tie which was finally won 2-0 by Schalke.

Unfortunate timing
The timing of the ban is unfortunate for Bayern as they attempt to secure UEFA Champions League qualification for next season. They are third in the 1. Bundesliga just two points ahead of Schalke. Kuffour, however, will be available for Bayern's Champions League fixtures, including Wednesday’s against Manchester United FC, as the ban is a domestic one.
