KSC Eendracht Aalst have settled all their debts with the Belgian league and will play in the third division from next season.
Legal action threatened
It remains to be seen whether the club can complete their remaining league fixtures this term, however, as any money the club did have went into paying off their debts. With the club unable to pay its players there has been a suggestion that the team would attempt to complete their final fixtures with some youngsters. But the professional players have already threatened the club with legal action should that happen.
New backers
Eendracht were put into administration last Monday after they failed to get their licence for next season renewed by the Belgian Football Association (KBVB). The club cancelled contracts with its players, who have not been paid since January, and immediately went in search of a new backer. The Andri de Kegel group stepped in late last week and came to an arrangement with the administrators which allowed the club to compete in their next three league fixtures.
No appeal
The new owners have decided not to appeal against the decision by the KBVB not to renew their licence, and are instead preparing to start again with a clean sheet in the third tier. Peter Garrie has been elected as the club's new president. A new board is yet to be appointed but will include the former-president Luc Coppens.
