Scotland round-up: Honours even in Glasgow

The Old Firm derby between Rangers FC and Celtic FC in the Scottish Premier League finished all-square at 1-1.

Extraordinary equaliser
An extraordinary goal from Arthur Numan saved Alex McLeish from tasting defeat in what was his first home derby as Rangers manager. The Dutchman, who played an unfortunate part in Stilian Petrov's first-half opener for Celtic, scored from distance to earn his side a point.

Effort ruled out
The result means Rangers avoid three successive Ibrox defeats at the hands of their rivals. It also means that Celtic's ten-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League is maintained. Celtic's Henrik Larsson and Rangers' Bert Konterman both fired over before the pattern of the game began to emerge. John Hartson also put the ball in the Rangers net in the 14th minute when slack marking allowed a Stephen Crainey free-kick to be chested down by Larsson in the box, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

Petrov goal
On 22 minutes, Numan misdirected an attempted interception and the ball fell to Larsson who controlled the ball in an instant and pushed it past the last defender and into Petrov's path. The Bulgarian poked it past the oncoming Stefan Klos to open the scoring.

Powerful shot
On 59 minutes Numan and Rangers' fortunes dramatically and suddenly improved. The Dutchman was a long way from goal and near his customary left flank when he decided to let fly. His effort was powerful and perfectly placed to beat Robert Douglas and record a goal that was more memorable than the contest itself.

Draw suits both sides
In the end a draw suited both sides; Celtic's near-certain second successive title triumph is now even closer while Rangers maintained their local pride.
