Richard Witschge will rejoin AFC Ajax after his successful loan at Deportivo Alavés.

Former Dutch international Richard Witschge will rejoin AFC Ajax next season after a successful spell on loan to Spain's Deportivo Alavés.

Keen to leave
The midfield player joined the Spanish team for this campaign after being left out of the side by ex-Ajax boss Co Adriaanse. But despite making a huge impact in midfield making 22 appearances and one goal, the former Dutch international was keen to return to the Netherlands after Ronald Koeman took over the hot seat in Amsterdam.

Happy return
"If I end up on the bench, Ronald Koeman should not expect problems," Witschge said. "I know he is fair and open", said the 32-year-old, who made his first appearance for Ajax in 1986.

No problems expected
"I have known Richard Witschge long enough and I don't expect any problems," Koeman said. "I have asked several of the players and it turns out that he fits into the squad well. They want to have him here next season." Witschge also enjoyed successful spells with FC Barcelona and Girondins de Bordeaux between 1991 and 1996, before returning to Amsterdam.
