Article body
Besiktas JK have fined striker Ilhan Mansiz €26,000 after he was sent off in Sunday's 2-0 Istanbul derby defeat by Fenerbahçe SK.
Leading scorer
Ilhan, a Turkish international and the club's leading scorer this season, started the game aggressively and earned the wrath of the referee after a series of fouls. The 26-year-old picked up his second yellow card late in the game after verbally abusing an assistant referee.
Bad behaviour
A Besiktas spokesperson said that the club had made an example of Ilhanz but decided against fining Ali Eren, who was also dismissed. "We have increased Ilhan's fine because he did not behave like a real Besiktas player," he said. "His fine is three times more than a player would usually receive for a red card. We have not fined Eren because the board believe his dismissal was unfair."
Possible sale
Yildirim Demiröre, Besiktas's director of football, said that Ilhan, who is expected to earn his fourth cap against Chile in the Netherlands tomorrow, could be sold if he continues to be a disruptive influence at the Inönü stadium.
