Juventus FC have revealed plans to redevelop the Delle Alpi stadium into an English-style football ground in a bold move to improve the atmosphere at their matches.
Alternative venue
The Serie A challengers announced the plan on their official website after the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) gave them the green light to play home matches in an alternative venue during the reconstruction period. The club, however, will need to purchase the stadium from its current owner, the city of Turin, before work can begin.
Supporters involved
Juventus estimate that work will take some 12 to 14 months to complete and they have listed four potential venues at which they could play: Cesena (Dino Manuzzi stadium), Reggio Emilia (Giglio stadium), Piacenza (Leonardo Garilli stadium) and Monza (Brianteo stadium). The club have invited supporters to vote for their preferred venue and have promised to "take their views into account".
'Legal aspects to clarify'
Juventus general director Antonio Giraudo added that there are "some technical and legal aspects to clarify" but nothing has been said about where the Delle Alpi's other residents, Torino Calcio, will reside while work takes place.
Torino to stay?
Attilio Romero, the Torino president, has said that his club may not even have to look for a temporary home. "We have received assurance that we will be able to use the Delle Alpi," he said, "even though some security aspects need to be cleared up."
