Akademisk mistake may cost points

Akademisk Boldklub field four non-EU citizens in 4-0 Danish league win and may have points deducted.

Akademisk Boldklub beat Vejle BK 4-0 yesterday in the Danish Superliga but could see the result reversed after they fielded four non-European Union citizens at the same time during the match.

One too many
Shortly before the end of the game Akademisk coach Ove Christensen substituted Nikolai Stokholm, replacing him with Mohammed Zidan. As three other non-EU players - Piotr Stokowicz, Abdul Sule and Ali Akida - were already on the field the presence of a fourth was contrary to Danish Football Association relegations.

Relegation battle
"We admit that we made a mistake and have notified the Danish FA accordingly," said Akademisk club secretary Per Frimann. Should Akademisk lose the points it would harm their hopes of claiming a UEFA Cup spot as they are in fifth place with six games left, seven points shy of Europe.

Relegation battle
If Vejle are awarded the points it would come as a welcome boost for the Jutland club as they try to hang on to their Superliga status. Vejle are just one point above the relegation zone.
