Eight-point cushion
The victory put them eight points clear of FSV Mainz with one game to play, giving Hannover the championship and a return to the 1. Bundesliga after a 13-year absence.

Two goals for N'Diaye
The Senegalese striker Babacar N'Diaye scored twice in the win over Duisburg for a club who were crowned German champions in 1938 and 1954.

Wait for Mainz
Mainz must wait another week before clinching promotion after being held 1-1 by SvVgg Greuther Fürth, but remain two points clear of DSV Arminia Bielefeld and VfL Bochum 1848 in the race for the two top-flight places still available.

Greuther not ruled out
Fifth-placed Greuther are a further three points behind Bielefeld and Bochum, but can still finish third with victory next week as they have a superior goal difference over the currently higher-positioned teams.

Relegation confirmed
FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Köln and SC Freiburg will replace the three promoted sides in the second division next season after being relegated on Saturday.

Trio go down
Three of the four relegation places from the second division have also been decided, with FC Schweinfurt, 1. FC Saarbrücken and SV Babelsberg 03 all condemned to demotion, with a further club to be join them next week.
