Article body
Blistering half
Egen Gerard's side scored four times in a sparkling first half. Stavros Georgiou slotted past AEK goalkeeper Savvas Konstantinou in the eleventh minute before Sinisa Gogic headed his 15th goal of the season a minute later.
All the points
Konstantinos Charalambides added a third with a powerful shot and former Greek international Marinos Ouzounides wrapped up the points just before half-time with another header.
Title hopes
Elsewhere, Slawomir Majak scored four minutes from time to give Anorthosis Famagusta FC a 2-1 victory at Apollon Limassol FC. The result maintains Anorthosis's slight title hopes - to clinch top spot, they need APOEL to lose their final game while scoring a barrage of goals at home to Ermis Aradippos FC.
Late winner
Apollon dominated but it was Wojciech Kowlaczyk who opened the scoring for the visitors after springing the offside trap. Georgi Shengelia levelled on the half-hour mark but Anorthosis had the final say through Majak's 86th-minute header from a Christos Kotsonis free-kick.
Omonia leave it late
Omonia FC were grateful for Vesko Mihajlovic's 90th-minute header as it proved the decisive goal in five at Alki FC. Rainer Rauffmann and Mihajlovic gave Omonia a deserved 2-0 half-time lead but Alki hit back through Ljubisa Kekic and Akis Ioannou. Just when the game looked to be heading for a draw Mihajlovic nodded in an Ilias Charalambous cross to steal the points.
Leading scorer
Elsewhere, Olympiakos Nicosia FC thrashed Doxa Katokopia FC 5-1 with goals from Jozef Kozlej - whose hat-trick took him to 20 goals for the season - Michalis Christophi and Marios Themistocleous. Cypriot Cup finalists Ethnikos Achnas FC edged past Enosis Neon Paralimni FC 2-1 while AEL Limassol FC boosted their UEFA Cup hopes with a 1-0 triumph at Ermis Aradippos FC.
