Article body
Twins Sabri and Raifi Selden have become the first Turkish-Cypriot players to make the move to professional Cypriot football for over three decades after signing for AEK Larnaca FC.
Political divide
The brothers have crossed the political divide on the island after agreeing to join AEK from Binatli in the town of Morphou. The duo signed a preliminary agreement with the Division A side today.
'Positive message'
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but wages are at least three times higher in the south. "This has a very positive political message," AEK chairman Stavros Xenis said.
Not recognised
Greek-Cypriot teams compete in international competitions - such as the UEFA Cup - unlike Turkish-Cypriot clubs, which are not internationally recognised. AEK's first division rivals Anorthosis Famagusta FC said that the players had attended one training session last week but had not signed with them.
