Former Swedish international forward Kennet Andersson has announced he will retire at the end of the season when his contract with Turkish side Fenerbahçe SK expires.
Eventful career
Andersson, capped 83 times for Sweden, will therefore only play twice more before retiring. Andersson, who helped Sweden win the bronze medal at the FIFA World Cup in 1994, has played for IFK Göteborg, KSK Beveren, IFK Norrköping, Lille OSC, Stade Malherbe Caen, AS Bari, Bologna FC and now Fenerbahçe during an eventful career.
Two fantastic years
"The club has decided that they want to blood younger players which is understandable," he said. "I've had two fantastic years and I'm not at all disappointed. Just to live and experience a town like Istanbul has been great."
Decent farewell
Andersson is now looking to give his fans a decent farewell in his last two appearances against Bursaspor and Diyarbakirspor. "I've made my mind up, so all there is left is to go out there and enjoy the games," he said.
"I'll enjoy the summer"
"I'm done with the big games, big arenas and fanatic fans but who knows what [will] happen," he added. "All I know now is that I'm going to Japan to help the Swedish television as an expert commentator, and after that I'll enjoy the summer." Andersson scored a total of 31 international goals for Sweden, making him his country's fourth-highest scorer ever.
