Portugal round-up: Sporting have to wait

Members

Sporting Clube de Portugal blew the chance to clinch the title in a 2-2 draw at Vitória Setúbal.

Jardel hits 40
Golden Shoe favourite Mario Jardel hit his 39th and 40th goals of the season but Setúbal refused to let the championship be won at their expense. Goals in between from Sandro and Hugo Henrique mean Sporting may have to wait till next week's final round of matches.

Five points behind
The Lisbon side can still be caught by reigning champions Boavista FC, who take on SL Benfica tomorrow. Boavista are five points behind but have two games to play to Sporting's one.

McCarthy magic
Elsewhere, FC Porto had Benni McCarthy to thank for a thrilling 5-3 win over CD Santa Clara. The South African hit a hat-trick as third-placed Porto extended their lead over fourth-placed Benfica to five points, though Benfica have a game in hand. Whoever finishes third will play in the UEFA Cup next season.

Deco double
McCarthy took over at the Das Antas with the scores tied at 3-3 and half an hour to play. He scored in the 60th and 75th minutes to seal both his treble and a famous victory. Porto's other goals came from Deco.
