Rizespor coach throws in the towel

Coach Karol Pecze has quit relegation-threatened Rizespor to return to Slovakia.

Relegation-threatened Rizespor will go into the final game of the season without coach Karol Pecze after he quit to return to Slovakia.

Survival hopes
The Turkish 1. Lig club's survival prospects lessened with a 3-1 weekend defeat by Istanbulspor AS, a result which means they will drop a division after two years in the top flight if Samsunspor draw with Malatyaspor on Sunday.

Assistant promoted
Rizespor general manager Yilmaz Demiroglu revealed that club officials were shocked by yesterday's departure of Pecze. "Our coach has told us that he has resigned and left the city. Assistant coach Osman Özdemir will continue preparations for our last game against [MKE] Ankaragücü."

'No morale'
Osman knows he faces a mountainous task to keep the club up. "We have nearly lost all hope of staying in the division," he said. "The players have no morale. Nevertheless, we have to find a way to fight."
