Article body
RSC Anderlecht's hold on third place in the Belgian first division was loosened a little after they were held to a 3-3 home draw by lowly KVC Westerlo.
Westerlo rally
The Belgian giants will be kicking themselves after throwing away the lead three times in the match. They broke the deadlock early, Tarek El Said playing in Ivica Mornar who slid the ball home. Westerlo rallied and were level 12 minutes later, Kevin Vandenbergh stealing in after confusion between Olivier Deschacht and goalkeeper Filip de Wilde to knock the ball into an empty net.
Remarkable contest
Anderlecht came again as Walter Baseggio saw his deflected strike fly into the back of the net three minutes later but Björn Smits was on hand to head in a 27th-minute corner to make it 2-2. El Said curled in Anderlecht's third with 24 minutes to go and the home fans could have been forgiven for thinking that would be it. Westerlo had other ideas, however, and took their point with eight minutes to go, Vedran Pelic scoring from distance to end a remarkable contest.
Gent stroll
KAA Gent had a far easier time of it at home to R. Charleroi SC, running out 3-0 winners. Patrick Dimbala headed in Vital Borkelmans's cross after eleven minutes and Dimbala fed Djima Oyawolé for the second ten minutes before half-time. Nenad Vanic scored the third from the penalty spot in the 58th minute.
Clinical header
Rúnar Kristinsson's 80th-minute strike was enough to give Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waaslan the points at RAA Louviéroise, while K. Sint Truidense VV came away from K. Lierse SK with maximum points after a 2-0 victory. Désiré Mbonabucya opened the scoring after just five minutes with a clinical header and Gunther Verjans scored on the counterattack 15 minutes from time.
Two levellers
KFC Lommelse SK and KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen shared the points after a 2-2 draw. Richard Culek's 14th-minute free-kick gave the hosts the lead, but Aaron Mokoena levelled after 29 minutes from a corner. Ibrahim Tankary restored his side's lead two minutes after the break but Aleksandr Mutavdzi ensured Germinal left with something to show for their toil when he levelled for a second time after 58 minutes.
Explosive start
R. Antwerp FC got off to an explosive start at home to KSK Beveren, taking the lead through Arkadiusz Kubik in the first minute. Tony Sergeant made it two at the start of the second half and Patrick Goots made the game safe with two goals in three minutes before the hour.
