Netherlands round-up: Title-hunting Feyenoord slip up

Feyenoord dropped two precious points in the hunt for the Eredivisie title when they were held to a goalless draw by NAC Breda on Sunday.

Slow start
Feyenoord, perhaps with Thursday's UEFA Cup semi-final second leg against Internazionale FC in mind, started slowly and failed to impress against NAC. Only in the last 20 minutes did they threaten to score, but the Rotterdam side could not beat NAC goalkeeper Gábor Babos.

Gap closed
PSV Eindhoven closed the gap on Feyenoord with a 1-0 victory at lowly FC Den Bosch, thanks to Jan Venegoor of Hesselink's 55th-minute goal, but AFC Ajax, who did not play over the weekend, stay top of the standings with 61 points from 30 matches. Feyenoord remain second, ahead of PSV on goal difference with both teams on 57 points from 29 matches.

Fight back
NEC Nijmegen fought back from 2-0 down to claim a draw against struggling FC Groningen. Ali Boussaboun had put Groningen ahead early on and his strike partner Arien Robben doubled the lead six minutes before half-time with an angled drive.

Captain spot on
NEC hit back through captain Danny Hesp's 52nd-minute penalty after Dennis de Nooijer was fouled in the box and De Nooijer completed the comeback when he pounced on a superb pass from Resit Schuurman to fire home an 89th-minute equaliser.
