Feyenoord moved up to second place in the Eredivisie after a tougher than expected 2-1 victory against SC Fortuna Sittard on Friday night in a game which relegated the latter club.

Pierre van Hooijdonk's 24th league goal of the season gave the UEFA Cup finalists a 23rd-minute lead but the title chasers were stunned six minutes before the interval when Sittard equalised through Ronald Hamming.

Back at the top of the table, Feyenoord are now second ahead of PSV Eindhoven on goal difference but four points behind Eredivisie leaders AFC Ajax. Feyenoord and Ajax both have three games left to play while PSV have four matches remaining. Fourth-placed SC Heerenveen are five points adrift of Feyenoord and PSV. The side that finishes second will earn a guaranteed place in the UEFA Champions League first group stage while the side that comes third will go into the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
