A Mario Jardel penalty six minutes into injury time rescued a point for Sporting Clube de Portugal in the Lisbon derby against SL Benfica, as they levelled the score at 1-1.
Late penalty
Benfica had the better of the first-half chances and were unfortunate not to go ahead through efforts from Luís Miguel, Pedro Mantorras and Luís Andrade. Just like two years ago, Benfica spoiled Sporting's title party by claiming a point, and they could have had all three had Sporting not been awarded a dramatic late penalty.
Jankauskas on target
Benfica went ahead midway through the second half when Edgaras Jankauskas reacted quickest to a loose ball and turned it into the net via his head. The visitors must have thought they had done enough but deep into injury time defender Armando handled the ball to give Jardel the chance to level from the spot.
Farense victorious
Elsewhere, the game between the Liga's two relegated clubs, SC Farense and FC Alverca finished 2-1 to the home side Farense. Alverca's season of woe went from bad to worse as they fell from a 1-0 lead after Ricardo Ramires put them ahead to a 2-1 defeat through a Nader Hassan penalty and a Rodri strike on 90 minutes.
Paços in charge
FC Paços de Ferreira ran out 1-0 winners against Vitória Setúbal at home thanks to a strike by Carlos Carneiro after 14 minutes. In the other games of round 32, CD Santa Clara played out a goalless draw with SC Beira-Mar, as did Gil Vicente FC at home against UD Leiria.
