Article body
FC Neftchi, FC Shamkir and FC Kapaz all won their Azeri Cup quarter-final first legs on Tuesday, but FC Khazar University's future in the competition is uncertain after they failed to turn up for their match against FC Shafa.
'Unfair decision'
Khazar officials claimed they had had ignored the match following what they called an "unfair refereeing decision" in their previous league fixture - also against Shafa. During that encounter, the referee awarded a penalty in Shafa's favour five minutes into injury time. The result of the match is still under appeal, with the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) scheduled to review the incident in the near future, but Khazar's cup future is also in jeopardy.
Shamir comfortable
Meanwhile, Shamkir celebrated a comfortable 2-0 victory over FC Karabakh Agdam. Hagani Mamedov was on target after 15 minutes when he finished well after a though ball from Halig Mardanov. Georgian striker Badri Khvaratskhelia made sure of the win from the penalty spot with 13 minutes remaining in the match.
Neftchi and Kapaz win
Kapaz continued their home winning streak with a 2-0 win against FC Turan at the City stadium. Ruslan Sadygov and Rovshan Suleimanov scored the goals and the hosts will be confident of progressing ahead of the return leg in Toviz. Elsewhere, Neftchi emerged from their quarter-final first leg with a 3-1 advantage over FC Shahdag Qusar.
