Golden Shoe hope
The prolific Brazilian, on course to claim the European Golden Shoe as the continent's top scorer, scored twice as Sporting won 3-1 at Varzim SC. Jardel's goals were scored in the 30th and 65th minutes, with the second coming from the penalty spot five minutes after a goal for his strike partner João Pinto. Gilmar earned Varzim a consolation in the 67th minute, but there was still time for them to lose Vidigal to a red card 15 minutes from the end.
McCarthy magical
Tonight's other game saw Benni McCarthy hit two as FC Porto beat SC Guimarães 3-0 at the Das Antas. South African forward McCarthy found the net in the 12th and 21st minutes, before Deco wrapped up a convincing win with a third just before the end.
