Fabio Capello will stay as coach of AS Roma until June 2005 after signing a two-year extension.

Fabio Capello has signed a two-year extension to his contract as coach of Italian champions AS Roma.

'Common agreement'
Capello, whose original deal was due to expire at the end of the 2002/03 campaign, had been linked with several of Europe's top clubs. In a statement to Milan's stock market, Roma said Capello would be paid €3.87m a season. The club added it had reached a "common agreement to extend their relationship for two further seasons".

Title wait over
The 55-year-old led Roma to their first title in 18 years last season and to the second group stage of this season's UEFA Champions League. Roma are currently second in Serie A, three points behind leaders Internazionale FC.

Success in Madrid
Capello, who won four league titles in five seasons with Milan AC in the early 1990s, and led them to Champions League glory in 1994, is a former Italian international who won 32 caps for his country. He left Milan in 1996 to coach Real Madrid CF, and won the title in his only season in Spain. He returned to Milan but stayed only two seasons before heading to Rome.
