Haas on target
Mario Haas put Sturm in front after 12 minutes, but Jürgen Pichorner levelled the scores 15 minutes later. That sparked a flurry of goals, which ended with the visitors going into the half-time break with a 4-2 advantage.
Vastic double
Three minutes after Pichorner's equaliser, Ivica Vastic restored Sturm's lead from the penalty spot and Haas grabbed his second goal of the game in the 33rd minute. Heimo Pfeifenberger pulled one back for the home side four minutes later, but Vastic scored his second, and Sturm's fourth, three minutes before the break.
16 points adrift
Francisco Rojas put the game beyond Salzburg in the second half, before Ewald Brenner scored a late consolation for the home side. Sturm are now 16 points adrift of the leaders FC Tirol Innsbruck, who drew 0-0 with Grazer AK on Saturday.
