Back home
The 36-year-old, who captained the Czech Republic during EURO 96™ will return home to the Czech first division after nine years in the 1. Bundesliga. Nemec will come back to his native land on a free transfer after signing a one-year deal with the club from a village in south-western Bohemia who avoided relegation in the last league round of the 2001/02 season.

UEFA Cup triumph
With 84 Czech caps to his name, Nemec bowed out of international football in March last year after the Czech Republic's game against Denmark. He has been with Schalke since 1993 and won the UEFA Cup with the Gelsenkirchen side in 1997.

Former team-mate
Nemec is the second high-profile member of the Czech Republic squad which reached the final of EURO 96™ to return home this summer. Former Manchester United FC player Karel Poborský having been signed by AC Sparta Praha, where Nemec was also offered a contract.
