Turkey round-up: Galatasaray end on a high

Members

Champions Galatasaray SK ended the domestic campaign with a 5-0 victory over Yozgatspor.

Arif double
Sébastien Pérez gave the UEFA Champions League qualifiers a 27th-minute lead as he moved in on a rebound and three minutes later any lingering doubts were wiped out by Radu Niculescu's goal. Arif Erdem made it three for Galatasaray six minutes into the second half after Gustavo Victoria squared a pass to him. Pérez scored his second after 67 minutes before Arif completed the rout four minutes from the end, racing on to Emre Asik's long pass.

Level with Mansiz
It was his 21st goal of the season, leaving him joint top of the Turkish goalscoring charts with Besiktas JK striker Ilhan Mansiz.

Two for Serhat
Fenerbahçe SK were also winners, 3-1 against Diyarbakirspor. Serhat Akin put them ahead in the 20th minute after Diyarbakispor goalkeeper Senol Karagol fumbled the ball and presented him with the chance to score. The visitors equalised on the hour when Deniz Kolgu finished off a counterattack by firing the ball under Rüstü Reçber. Seven minutes later normal service was resumed as Oktay Derelioglu put Fenerbahçe back in front, and maximum points were guaranteed when Serhat struck his second, lobbing the ball over the onrushing Senol.

UEFA Cup joy
Denizlispor secured the final UEFA Cup berth with a 4-0 success against mid-table Kocaelispor. They knew they had just to match Gaziantepspor's result to qualify thanks to a better head-to-head record against them, and got the start they wanted when Coskun Birdal's 24th-minute spot-kick put them 1-0 up. Coskun added a second two minutes before the break when Kocaelispor defender Nuri Golak lost possession to Veysel Cihan. Timugin Beyazit lobbed in a third in the 61st minute before Veysel struck the fourth at the death.

Just missed out
Gaziantepspor's 1-0 triumph over third-placed Besiktas was, consequently, not enough to seal a European place. Maxim Romaschenko netted the only goal a minute before half-time when he leapt to head in Andre Luiz dos Santos' cross.

Samsunspor survive
At the other end of the table, Samsunspor were indebted to their captain Ercan Kologlu as he assured their place in the top flight next season. They required a point to be sure of survival, and that was what they got, although Malatyaspor made them sweat when Ziya Sahin put them ahead in the eleventh minute. Samsunspor put Serkan Karabab's 27th-minute sending-off behind them and grabbed the all-important equaliser through Ercan on the stroke of half-time.

Rizespor down
That result meant Rizespor were down in spite of a 3-2 victory over UEFA Cup qualifiers MKE Ankaragücü. They led 3-0 through Emmanuel Tetteh (19), Hasan Ozer (30) and Recep Asil (35) before second-half goals from Mehmet Turkmehmet and Huseyin Kartal threatened to undo their good work.

Chance for youngsters
Antalyaspor had already been relegated after the penultimate round of games and fielded a youthful line-up as they waved goodbye to the top flight with a 2-0 win over Istanbulspor AS. Finally, Gençlerbirligi SK edged a five-goal thriller against Bursaspor after nearly throwing away a three-goal lead.
