Alternative Azeris name their date

The clubs boycotting the Azeri first division will start their own championship on 4 May.

Nine clubs
The nine clubs who will participate in the new league are FC Neftchi, FC Karabakh-Azersun, FC Kapaz, FC Khazar University, FC OMIK Baku, FC Turan, FC Shahdag Qusar, FC Shamkir, FC Tefekkjur University and FC Dinamo-Bakili. Legendary Dinamo Moscow forward Alekper Mamedov will head the alternative championship committee.

'The rebels will not displace me'
Under-fire Fuad Musaev, the Association of the Football Federation of Azerbaijan president, said: "I have just returned from the UEFA Congress in Stockholm. I had talks with several European football managers and nobody can understand what is happening here.

"Why couldn't we finish the national championship and start a political struggle afterwards? Despite all their threats the rebels will not displace me. I would like Geidar Aliev, Azerbaijan's president, to personally announce that I have to leave, otherwise I see no reasons for resigning."
