Article body
Mario Jardel scored the only goal as Sporting Clube de Portugal secured their sixth Portuguese league and cup double on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over second division Leixões SC in the final of the Taça de Portugal.
Jardel on target
Rui Bento struck the crossbar with a fine strike after 32 minutes, before Jardel continued his superb goalscoring form with a simple finish eight minutes later. Dmitrios Nalitzis's cross found him unmarked in the area and the Brazilian striker drove a low shot beyond the Leixões keeper to win his side the Cup for the 13th time.
Late chance
Leixões, who last played in the final in 1961 when they beat FC Porto 2-0, will play in the UEFA Cup next season, as Sporting have already secured their berth in the UEFA Champions League having won the 1. Liga title last weekend. Gabonese striker Henri Antchoete hit the post in the dying seconds as Leixões pushed for an equaliser but Sporting held on to secure victory.
