Emiel van Eijkeren had given Den Haag the lead three minutes before the break, but Buffel slid home the equaliser, in the final minute, to put Excelsior top.
Surprise result
Sparta Rotterdam slip down to second after suffering a shock 3-1 defeat at home by the bottom club FC Volendam. Nordin Boukhari had levelled the scores from the penalty spot in the 20th minute, after Maurice Buys had given winless Volendam a third-minute lead. But Cerezo Fung Wing restored the advantage for the visitors in the 27th minute, before Buys bagged his second eight minutes from time.
