Varlam Kilasonia has been appointed player-coach of Georgian Premier League side FC Gorda Rustavi following the resignation of former coach Tengiz Katsia.
Scoring debut
Katsia resigned after his team's 4-1 defeat by FC WIT Georgia Tbilisi on 1 May. The 34-year-old Kilasonia made a successful start to his player-coach career when he scored in Gorda's 3-0 win against FC Sioni Bolnisi on Wednesday.
Operation delayed
This was Kilasonia's first appearance on the playing field since August 2001 due to a groin injury, but he has postponed an operation to help Gorda remain in the Premier League.

Kilasonia has played for FC Alazani Gurjaani, FC Kakheti Telavi, FC Dnipro Dnepropetrovsk, FC Kuban Krasnodar, FC Lokomotivi Tbilisi and FC Turan Tovuz. He is also Gorda's all-time leading goalscorer with 84 goals and is the second player-coach to be appointed this season in the Premier League.
