Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Wien have appointed Josef Hickersberger to replace Lothar Matthaüs as coach.
Join in June The 54-year-old Hickersberger, a former player at the Gerhard Hanappi stadium, will join Rapid in June after his contract with Quatar-based club Al Etehad ends. Matthaüs was sacked last week after guiding Rapid to their lowest ever finish in the table, eighth, in his first season in charge.
Former Austria coach Hickersberger is a former coach of Austria. He left the national team in 1990 following a 1-0 defeat by the Faroe Islands in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.
