K. Lierse SK confirmed Emilio Ferrera as their new coach today following the sacking of Regi van Acker.
Two-year contract
Ferrera has signed a two-year contract after initially agreeing to take over at KV Mechelen before having a late change of heart. The former KSK Beveren and RWD Molenbeek coach walked out without taking charge of a game after the club were denied a Belgian first division license for next season following alleged arrears concerning three transfers.
'I'm eager to start'
After an appeal, their promotion to the top flight was confirmed, but it still was not enough to persuade Ferrera to stay. "I didn't want to jump to any decisions," said Ferrera. "I wanted to solve my problems with Mechelen as soon as possible. For Lierse I have a squad in my head and I'm eager to start."
Assistant to be named
Ferrera will name his assistant next week.
