Shakhtar lift the cup again

Members

FC Shakhtar Donetsk are celebrating after retaining the Ukrainian Cup.

Andriy Vorobei's extra-time winner sunk FC Dynamo Kyiv and sealed a second successive Ukrainian Cup triumph for FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the Olimpiyskyi stadium today.

Trophy retained
Nevio Scala's side retained the metre-high trophy despite trailing 2-1 with ten minutes of normal time remaining and having a man sent off after Serhiy Atelkin's late goal forced an additional 30 minutes.

Bad start
But the result went against the script for Dynamo's new coach Olexiy Mykhaylichenko in his first game in charge since the death of former coach Valery Lobanovskiy earlier this month.

Popov pounces
A crowd of 75,000 watched Shakhtar take a tenth-minute lead through Serhiy Popov, but Dynamo were back on level terms on the half-hour mark when Valentin Belkevich found the net for the the capital club.

Atelkin leveller
Maxim Shatskikh's goal five minutes after half-time turned the game in Dynamo's favour but Atelkin popped up on 81 minutes to take the game into extra time.

Red card
Vorobei hit the target to restore Shakhtar's lead on 98 minutes and his side had to weather the storm after Hennady Zubov was shown the red card late on, but they held out to claim their fourth Ukrainian Cup success.
