UEFA referees and assistants are well represented in the FIFA World Cup closing stages.

A number of top European referees and assistant referees have been chosen by FIFA to officiate in the closing stages of the FIFA World Cup.

32 referees and assistants
A total of 32 referees and assistants have been retained by world football’s governing body for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals of the tournament in Japan/Korea.

European referees
The European referees retained are: Pierluigi Collina (Italy), Hugh Dallas (Scotland), Anders Frisk (Sweden), Urs Meier (Switzerland), Markus Merk (Germany), Kim Milton Nielsen (Denmark) and Gilles Veissiere (France).

Seven assistants
The assistant referees from this continent are: Evzen Amler (Czech Republic), Frédéric Arnault (France), Leif Lindberg (Sweden), Heiner Müller (Germany), Philip Sharp (England), Igor Sramka (Slovakia) and Maciej Wierzbowski (Poland).

Dallas in charge
Hugh Dallas will referee Friday’s quarter-final between Germany and the United States in Ulsan, and Philip Sharp is one of the assistant referees. Gilles Veissiere is the fourth official for the quarter-final between Senegal and Turkey on Saturday.
