Romanian Divizia A team FCM Bacau have appointed Dumitru Dumitriu as their new coach.

Divizia A team FCM Bacau have appointed Dumitru Dumitriu as their new coach on a two-year deal.

Third time lucky
After a disappointing finish to the campaign, which saw Bacau finish sixth and miss out on Europe, honorary club president Dumitru Sechelariu turned to Dumitru. He is Bacau's third coach since the start of the 2001/02 Romanian first division season.

'Wonderful conditions'
"I chose Bacau because I like to work only with professionals, because I saw that here are wonderful conditions and good players, but also because there are good perspectives," said Dumitriu.

Good pedigree
The 56-year-old coach arrives with an excellent reputation and an impressive CV which includes being assistant coach of the Romanian national team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and much success at FC Steaua Bucuresti. While with the capital club, he won four Divizia A titles, two FRF Cups and qualified for the UEFA Champions League three years in a row. He also had successful spells in the Ethniki Katigoria with AEK Athens, Apollon Limassol and, last season, with Panionios GS.
