Cypriot UEFA Cup representatives Anorthosis Famagusta FC have re-signed Georgian international forward Temuri Ketsbaia on a two-year contract.
Cypriot sensation
Ketsbaia, 34, first joined Anorthosis from Dinamo Tbilisi FC in 1991 and enjoyed a marvellous spell with the Famagusta club linking up with Yugoslavian-Cypriot striker Sinisa Gogic to score 36 league goals in 76 games for his club. Ketsbaia's talent was quickly spotted by Greek giants AEK Athens FC where he spent three seasons before being snapped up by Newcastle United FC manager Kenny Dalglish in July 1997.
Other clubs
The Georgian quickly became a popular figure at the Tyneside club where he stayed for another three seasons before going on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. A move to Scottish club Dundee FC followed before Anorthosis chairman Kikis Konstantinou persuaded Ketsbaia - who has a Cypriot passport because of his Cypriot wife - to return back to the club where he built his reputation.
Panagiotou to stay
More good news followed for Anorthosis after it was announced by the club that Cypriot international goalkeeper Nicos Panagiotou will be staying at the club after he reached a financial agreement with the board. Long-serving players Christos Kotsonis, Loucas Louca and Stavros Foukaris - who has officially signed for Nea Salamis FC - are no longer with the club.
