Jim Duffy has returned to Scottish Premier League side Dundee FC for a second stint as manager.

Jim Duffy has returned to Scottish Premier League side Dundee FC for a second stint as manager after agreeing to replace Ivano Bonetti at the helm of the Tayside club.

Three-year contract
Duffy - a former player who went on to manage the club for the first time  between 1993 and 1996 - has signed a three-year contract to take charge at Dens Park. Duffy left the club in six years ago to join Hibernian FC where he lasted little over a year before being given the sack.

Excellent tactician
However, Dundee owner and chief executive Peter Marr believes the popular former player with the reputation as an excellent tactician and a man with a keen eye for a young player can turn around the club's fortunes around.

Chelsea job
After leaving Hibernian in 1997, Duffy's coaching abilities earned him a place on the staff at Chelsea FC under then manager Italian Gianluca Vialli. Last season he moved from Stamford Bridge to Portsmouth FC where he accepted the role of assistant manager to one-time Dundee team-mate and Chelsea coaching companion Graham Rix.

Contract terminated
Duffy - who also has coaching experience at Falkirk FC and Partick Thistle FC - was named as manager by chief executive Marr less than 48 hours after Italian Bonetti had his contract with the club terminated.

Bonetti claim
Bonetti has since claimed he walked out of the club after it became clear that he did not share the directors vision for the future. Dundee are adamant the decision to relieve Ivano Bonetti and brother Dario of their coaching duties was reached "by mutual consent".
