Article body
Tencho Tenev, the coach of newly-promoted PFC Botev Plovdiv, has been surprisingly sacked after a string of unsatisfactory results ahead of the start of the new Bulgarian A PFG league season.
Heavy losses
The Plovdiv team have recorded two heavy losses in pre-season friendlies, going down 5-0 against PFC CSKA Sofia and 4-0 to PFC Levski Sofia. Tenev took over at the helm of Botev at the beginning of spring last season and led the club to promotion, but did not appear bitter at his sacking.
'Wonderful team'
"I worked with a wonderful team - both coaches and players," he said. "The six months at Botev were too good to be true. What's important is that Botev is where it belongs - among the leading clubs in our country. This club and its fans deserve a lot.''
Replacement unknown
All of the club's assistant coaches are also leaving as a mark of solidarity with Tenev. As a result, Saturday's training session was lead by veteran goalkeeper Lilcho Arsov. Tenev's replacement is not yet known, but club legend Kostadin Kostadinov, who has coached third division side PFC Maritsa Plovdiv, is thought to have been approached.
