Denmark keeper loaned to Wolfsburg

Jesper Christiansen has moved to VfL Wolfsburg after failing to establish himself at Rangers FC.

Jesper Christiansen has moved to VfL Wolfsburg on a season's loan after failing to oust Rangers FC goalkeeper Stefan Klos from the No1 position at Ibrox.

World Cup squad
The Danish international joined the Glasgow giants from Odense BK in October 2000 but was never a first-team regular at Rangers. Christiansen, 24, was loaned to Vejle BK in his homeland last season. Despite the club's relegation he forced himself into Denmark's 2002 FIFA World Cup squad ahead of Akademisk Boldklub's Jan Hoffmann.

'The right club'
Wolfsburg will have an option to buy Christiansen at the end of the 2002/03 1. Bundesliga season if the 1.92m keeper impresses at the VfL-Stadion. The player's agent, Karsten Aabrink, said of the deal: "Jesper is not interested whether Rangers are bigger than Wolfsburg, or that he could earn more money in Scotland. He just wants to play. Jesper wants to become the Danish national team's first-choice keeper. Wolfsburg is the right club for him."
