Article body
Middlesbrough FC are set to continue their summer spending after moving for Dutch international midfield player George Boateng.
Unsettled at Villa
The 26-year-old has been unsettled at Aston Villa FC and will sign for their FA Premiership rivals subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. He is the second new midfield recruit in recent days, after Middlesbrough signed Brazil's Juninho last Friday.
Did not play
Boateng did not feature for Villa in Saturday's UEFA Intertoto Cup third round second-leg match against FC Zürich, which the English club won 3-0 to triumph 3-2 on aggregate.
Undisclosed fee
"We have agreed an undisclosed fee for George Boateng and at the moment he is discussing personal terms," a Middlesbrough spokesman said. "He will have a medical today and the talks are ongoing but we hope to have them resolved as soon as possible."
International debut
Boateng joined Villa from Coventry City FC in 1999 for €7.2m and made over 100 appearances for them. He made his debut for the Netherlands in April, in a 1-1 friendly draw against England.
