Edward Trylnik has replaced Leszek Miklas as president of Polish champions Legia Warszawa.
Returns to former post
Following a decision by the club board Miklas will return to the position of technical director, which he left in July 2001 to become chairman. Trylnik is a newcomer to professional football, having spent virtually all his career working for Poland's biggest car factory, FSO. Since 2000 he has been working for Polmot, the company which owns 80 per cent of Legia.
Clear target
However, the new chairman has made his basic target clear. "I want Legia to qualify for the UEFA Champions League [group stages]," he said. "This will help us avoid any financial problems." Legia will face the winners of the tie between Luxembourg's F91 Dudelange and F.Y.R. Macedonia's FK Vardar in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
Zganiacz signing
Meanwhile, Legia have signed teenage midfield player Mariusz Zganiacz. The 18-year-old has been hailed as one of the biggest talents in Polish football and is a member of the Polish national Under-19 team. The Polish champions have paid €35,000 to LZS Czarni Gorzyce to secure his signature on a permanent deal.
'I'm very satisfied'
Zganiacz, who was loaned to Legia last season said: "I'm very satisfied with this situation. My dream is now to play in a league match." He has already appeared for Legia in two league cup matches.
