Former Republic of Ireland international David Kelly has joined Derry City FC on a season-long deal.
Free agent
The 37-year-old was a free agent this summer after leaving Scottish side Motherwell FC and has been looking for a new club since May. Derry and Shelbourne FC were both vying for the striker's signature but he chose to join Derry after speaking to close friends in England.
'Really buzzing'
"He's signed until the end of the season at least and will make his debut on Thursday against Longford [Town FC]," said Derry director Jim Roddy. "The place is really buzzing at the prospect of David playing at the Brandywell."
Debut hat-trick
Kelly scored a hat-trick on his international debut against Israel in 1987, but in ten years he only made 29 appearances, scoring nine goals. He was a member of Ireland's FIFA World Cup squads in both Italy and the United States, making one substitute appearance against Norway in 1994.
