Ikedia heads Ajax exodus

Members

AFC Ajax have told four players they are surplus to requirements, including Nigeria's Pius Ikedia.

Nigerian international Pius Ikedia will spend next season on loan at FC Groningen after being told he is surplus to requirements at AFC Ajax.

World Cup appearance
The 22-year-old right midfield player, who played at the FIFA World Cup, hopes to use the spell at the Oosterpark to get his club career back on track. "I'm happy with Groningen," he said. "I hope that I can play a lot of games here. And playing at Groningen is better than another year of being a substitute in Amsterdam."

Others released
Ikedia has played just 21 games for the Dutch champions since making his debut against AZ Alkmaar in November 1999. As well as Ikedia, Cedric van der Gun, Tim de Cler and Richard Knopper have also been told they can leave by Ajax coach Ronald Koeman.
