Injury has ruled goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel out of Manchester City FC's plans for eight weeks.

Manchester City FC goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel will miss the start of the English FA Premiership season after suffering a knee ligament injury.

Eight weeks out
The former Danish international sustained the injury during a friendly match against division one side Preston North End on Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined for up to eight weeks.

"A nothing incident"
"Obviously you want all of your best players fit for the start of the
season, but it could be a lot worse with Peter," City manager Kevin Keegan told the club's website today. "It was a nothing incident that led to him getting injured, but these things happen and we will just let him recover."

Chance for Weaver
Schmeichel's absence could hand a chance to former England Under-21 international Nicky Weaver who is expected to be fit for the start of the season on 17 August after knee surgery.
