Article body
Leicester City FC's former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers is to join Manchester City FC on a three-month loan, Leicester manager Micky Adams said on Friday.
'Tim fits the bill'
"Manchester City are in dire need of an experienced goalkeeper and Tim fits the bill perfectly," he said. "He is happy to be helping out and going back to the Premiership and it is good for us because it takes a big earner off our wage bill."
Schmeichel out
Manchester City's two leading keepers are both injured. Peter Schmeichel is out of action until September with a knee injury and Nicky Weaver will be unavailable for up to three months after learning he requires knee surgery.
Injury crisis
The injury crisis means that manager Kevin Keegan would be forced to use either one of Brian Murphy or Kevin Ellegard, both inexperienced, behind Carlo Nash.
Salary bill cut
The deal also allows Leicester - relegated from the English Premiership to division one last season - to cut their salary bill.
Flowers is currently second-choice keeper at Leicester behind Ian Walker.
