St Patrick's clinch derby double

Members

Victory over Shelbourne FC sent Saint Patrick's Athletic FC into the last eight of the FAI Cup.

St Patrick's night... again
A week after winning 2-1 at Shelbourne in the league, St Patrick's returned to Tolka Park on Friday night and triumphed by the same scoreline thanks to an injury-time goal from Paul Osam.

Leaving it late
Shelbourne looked to have earned a replay when Stuart Byrne equalised Martin Russell's first-half penalty on 87 minutes. But deep into stoppage time Osam touched in a Russell free-kick to send the away support into raptures.

Rovers beat Ramblers
Shamrock Rovers FC made more routine progress, goals either side of half-time giving the Dublin side a 2-0 victory over lower-division opponents Cobh Ramblers FC. While the only non-league team left in the competition, Fairview Rangers FC, were beaten - but unbowed - 2-0 against Finn Harps FC.

Class outs
Other top-flight sides to prevail over lesser teams were Derry City FC, 3-0 against Waterford United FC, and Bray Wanderers AFC, 2-0 against Sligo Rovers FC. Leaders Bohemian FC also had a comfortable win, 2-0 versus University College Dublin FC, the top flight's second-bottom club.

Lesser lights shine
However, Kilkenny City FC provided an upset when they overcame Longford Town FC of the National League 2-0. And Monaghan United FC struck a further blow for the Davids after holding Cork City FC 1-1 at home.
