Newly promoted West Bromwich Albion FC boosted their prospects of Premiership survival today with the double signing of Tranmere Rovers FC midfield player Jason Koumas and former striking hero Lee Hughes from Coventry City FC.
Four-year deal
Koumas, a Welsh international, signed a four-year deal which could eventually cost the west Midlands club €4m after passing a routine medical at The Hawthorns. Hughes, meanwhile, returns to Albion after a season at Coventry in a €3.9m deal.
Top-flight debuts
Both Koumas and Hughes, who has also signed a four-year contract, could get their first taste of life in the top flight on Saturday when Albion entertain Fulham FC. Gary Megson's side are still seeking their first points of the season after three straight defeats.
'Dream come true'
"It's been a long, drawn-out affair but I'm glad it's all been completed to my satisfaction," said Koumas. "Playing in the Premiership will be a dream come true as it means I can really test myself against the best players in the country."
EURO 2004™ ambitions
Koumas is keen to use the move to prove himself, and with it force his way into the Wales team for the EURO 2004™ qualifiers.
