IFK Göteborg defender Pontus Kåmark has been forced to retire from professional football due to a knee injury.

Comeback in vain
The former Swedish international was advised by doctors at the club to give up his career or risk further damage to his knee. "I have tried to make a comeback but the pain in my knee is to great," Kåmark told the IFK Göteborg website.

Göteborg stalwart
The 33-year-old played for Västerås SK FK, Leicester City FC, and AIK Solna in a career spanning 16 years. But he spent the majority of his time - nine years - in two spells with Göteborg.

Experienced Swedish international
Capped 56 times for his country, Kåmark was a member of the Sweden side that achieved a third-placed finish at the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals in the United States.
