Barbarez blow for Hamburg

Members

Hamburger SV's Sergej Barbarez has damaged knee ligaments and will be out for at least six weeks.

Bosnian international Sergej Barbarez damaged knee ligaments yesterday as Hamburger SV celebrated Kevin Keegan's return to the club with a 1-0 defeat of his Manchester City FC side.

Scan result
With Sunday's 1. Bundesliga opening game against Hannover 96 drawing ever closer, Hamburg coach Kurt Jara cannot afford to lose any more players after Barbarez was ruled out for six weeks following a scan today.

Injury doubts
Argentinian duo Rodolfo Esteban Cardoso and Bernardo Romeo, the club's €5.7m record signing, are both doubtful for the game, but Jörg Albertz, Stephan Kling, Nico-Jan Hoogma and Martin Groth could all be available for selection if they successfully negotiate training this week.

Ujfalusi winner
Hamburg warmed up for the visit of Hannover by spoiling Keegan's return to Germany as Tomas Ujfalusi headed the only goal against the English side in front of over 33,000 fans. City manager Keegan was twice voted the European Footballer of the Year during his time with Hamburg.
