Germany round-up: Hamburg leave it late

Members

Hamburger SV started their season with a win but SV Werder Bremen's first match ended in defeat.

Two goals in the last eight minutes ensured Hamburger SV got their 1. Bundesliga season off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory against Hannover 96 today.

Two for Albertz
A penalty in the 82nd minute and an 84th-minute strike, both from Jörg Albertz, settled the match in the home side's favour after they had conceded an early goal. Newly promoted Hannover got their noses in front after just six minutes when the Hamburg defence failed to clear a Jirí Stajner free-kick and Dariusz Zuraw pounced to score from close range.

Two sent off
In today's other game, SV Werder Bremen had two men sent off as they lost 3-0 at DSC Arminia Bielefeld. Bielefeld made a triumphant start on their return to the top flight thanks to goals from Bastian Reinhardt, Artur Wichniarek and Massimiliano Porcello. Fabian Ernst and Razundara Tjikuzu were the men dismissed for Bremen.
