Brazilian defender Rafael da Silva Santos has signed a one-year deal with TSV 1860 München.

Brazilian reputation
The 23-year-old defender has already built up a sigificant reputation in his native land after making 18 appearances for the Brazil Under-21 side while playing for FC Iparanga, America FC, Botafogo CR and Campo Grande Rio.

Aerial strength
In 1999 he was part of the U20 side which won the South American championships and his height and strength in the air impressed 1860 coach Peter Pacult when he travelled to the club for a recent trial. Having joined on a free transfer, the 1.90m defender has already been allocated the number 22 shirt at the Olympiastadion.
